News & Upcoming Events...

We are in the final stages of our application for full charitable status so fingers crossed by the New Year we will be ready to roll with various funding applications.

We are delighted to announce that Tim Smit, Chief Executive, Development (and co-founder) of the Eden Project in Cornwall has agreed to be our patron. Plans in the pipeline include a Horse Boy Method Demo and Film Screening at Eden next year, followed by a roll-out of camps in the Lost Gardens of Heligan and an autism friendly music festival. With Rupert safely installed back in Texas after another very successful round of UK demos, fundraising events and workshops under our belts, we look forward to all that 2013 has to bring for Horse Boy Foundation UK. We are currently putting together a schedule of events for spring 2013 to include fundraisers, demos and workshops. Watch this space…

In the meantime, here is a little roundup of our Horse Boy Tour, November 2012:

Horse World Live, London, Excel, 16th - 18th November

Rupert had several appearances at the Talk Theatre, where he was able to tell his story and overview Horse Boy Method. These talks generated a huge amount of interest, particularly from horse people wishing to train in Horse Boy Method and to forge partnerships with us. Thanks to our friends Jo Warrilow at Equine Events UK and Anna Ross Davies at Altogether Equestrian, we were able to get backstage and meet some equestrian superstars such as William Fox-Pitt, Emile Faurie and Lucinda Green, who were very interested in the work of the foundation – all very promising for future collaborations within the equestrian world as well as our presence at this and other world class equestrian events next year…

Horse Boy Demo and Screening at Conquest RDA, Monday 19th November

We had a fantastic turnout for this evening event and once again it generated a huge amount interest in the work of Conquest and Horse Boy Foundation UK thanks to Chantal Bannister, who runs Horse Boy sessions out of the centre and who put the event together.

We were back to Conquest on Tuesday morning bright and to meet our Sunday Times crew, who were arriving to interview Rupert and film Horse Boy Method in action. We spent the morning working with three local families and their kids with some equally wonderful outcomes. For example, one little girl, aged 5, with emerging speech came along with her mum. Chantal did lots of cantering with her on Dylan during the playdate, which she loved.  She woke up on the Weds morning after the playdate and said 'Dylan'.  Since starting to work in canter she has also said 'toast' and 'yoghurt' at home.  Her mum is convinced it's due to the cantering.

Horse Boy Demo and Screening, Avon RDA Centre, Tuesday 20th November

Avon RDA put together another very successful evening, which gave local people, friends and associates of the centre a chance to find out more about Rupert’s story and Horse Boy Method. The centre has some fabulous facilities and we look forward to collaborating on some bigger events in 2013. Thanks to Kerry Keightley, who kindly lent us her very special horse to use for the demo.

Horse Boy Demo and Screening, Tattersalls, Fairyhouse, Dublin & Horse Boy Method 1 Workshop in association with Child Vision, Spruce Lodge, Wicklow, Ireland, Wednesday 21st - Friday 23rd November

As if our week could get any better…Tracey Piggott and Brian and Ruth Allen of Child Vision, Dublin had some delights in store for us. First night was a wine reception followed by a Horse Boy demo and screening at Tattersalls sales house just outside Dublin, kindly sponsored by Horse Sport Ireland. It was an incredible venue and a staggering turnout of at least 200 people…including Horse Sport Ireland, Cian O’Connor (Irish Olympic showjumper), Helen Kearney (Irish paralympic medallist at 2012) and champion racehorse trainer Aiden O’Brien and many fantastic people with inspiring stories.

We spent the next two days up at beautiful Spruce Lodge training Child Vision staff, the Garda (Irish Mounted Police) and others in Horse Boy Method 1 with a lovely team of horses (and Rusty the pony of course…). We had a lot of fun, particularly when it came to making up rule-based games on Day 2! We are looking forward to continue our work with Child Vision and the Garda in 2013.Thank you to Child Vision and Tracey for organising a cracking event and laying on some extremely warm and generous Irish hospitality!

Altogether Agility at Altogether Equestrian, Cholderton House, Saturday 24th November

The final furlong! The torrential rain, while possibly putting off a few fair weather friends, certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of those who ventured out. It certainly was a rip-roaring entertainment of an afternoon with The Lakers Dog Agility Team, who were out in full gusto. Warren Lamperd bravely met the challenge of his doggy opponent in the puissance and then we used him and his horse to demo the sensory part of Horse Boy Method. Equally as sporting, Anna Ross Davies and her Grand Prix dressage horse were dancing to music one minute and were part of the Horse Boy Demo the next, demonstrating the ridden exercises and playing rule-based games. Just goes to show that high level competition horses really can double up as therapy horses. Our dancing dog ladies and Cruella and the Equine Dalmation and their skilled side-saddle demo also went down a treat!

Thank you to Anna, Gina, Warren and the team, not to mention the burger van for a fantastic afternoon!
